Bronze sculpture of the sedge wren
The Fragility of Biodiversity by Huguette JoncasThe sedge wren is at risk of being designated a vulnerable species in Québec. The wings of the sculpted sedge wren are intricately crafted. The sculpture features an egg cast in aluminium and the sedge wren perched on a branch gathered on the beach of île Verte. The branch was moulded and cast in bronze. The base of the sculpture is made of bird's eye maple. Fifteen (15) sedge wren sculptures have been created by artist Huguette Joncas, and each is unique.

The Sedge Wren
This nomad prefers marshland, damp fields and peat land, precious resources for wildlife, but growing rare as a result of farming and urbanization. In the past 50 years, most wet meadows have disappeared in the St. Lawrence Valley, endangering the sedge wren’s habitat and its very survival. In Québec, the national preserve of Lac Saint-François is home to the largest number of individuals (thirty of the fifty couples inventoried in Québec).
